What are escape rooms?
Escape games are a new, live, challenging form of entertainment. Small groups of people (anywhere from 2 to 12) work together to solve puzzles, answer riddles, crack codes, unlock locks, and solve mysteries, all with one goal in mind: escape the room in 60 minutes or less. Work together with your team of friends, family, or co-workers to overcome obstacles on your way to success! Each room has a distinct theme and a different set of challenges. Do YOU have what it takes to escape?
Why should I choose Enigma?
Our games are original. Unlike franchise businesses, we build and adjust all of our escape rooms. We make the props, the electronics, the puzzles and even the intro videos. We have the power and the ability to adjust rooms to the size of the group playing and to the skill level of the players, when requested. This allows us to make the games challenging and fair for different kinds of groups. Our games are unique. You can quickly search the internet to find that pretty much all the franchise businesses do the same old themes. At Enigma, we make our own themes and our own puzzles, and you can tell from our reviews that experienced Escapists love us for that. We started Enigma because we wanted to be creative, not to copy what others have done. Where’s the fun in that?
Are we really locked in?
No. For safety reasons, the rooms can be exited at any time and re-entered as needed. Claustrophobic? Death By Chocolate and Dark Carnival are particularly large escape rooms. They are easily the largest we’ve seen in town.
What should I bring?
You need nothing beyond your wits, your enthusiasm, and your desire for a fun challenge. Everything you need to solve the puzzles will be found in the rooms themselves. Players are not allowed to bring in or use anything that might help them. There are storage bins in each room in case you need to deposit items until the round is over.
Is there an age limit?
Generally, we say our games are best suited for people 12 years and older; anyone under 14 must be accompanied by an adult player. We often have younger players in the games. Kids under 12 who are playing with their families, for example, will be just fine; a room full of 8 year old children, on the other hand, wouldn’t have the ability to solve the puzzles without parents or older kids. If you aren’t sure, feel free to call. We’ve seen some groups succeed with younger kids who turned out to be better solvers than their older siblings or parents!
How many people are in each escape room?
Our rooms are designed for 2 to 12 players, depending on the room. The booking page will show you the number of slots open and the maximum available. The slots are usually set at 8 maximum. If you want to increase that to 12, just contact us. The Woman of Dunn Woods cannot ever exceed 8 people.
Will there be other people in our room?
Unlike most escape game businesses, we are happy to do private bookings, if requested. To ensure a private group, you need to call us so that we can block out any remaining slots.
What if we get stuck trying to solve a puzzle?
Before each game begins, groups are asked if they wish to play in normal mode, with three free hints or hardcore mode, meaning absolutely no hints. Players in normal mode can ask for additional hints beyond the three free ones, but each request will add to their final time. Both normal and hardcore times are recorded, and we keep a ranked leader board for each game room. Throughout the year we have contests and offer prizes to groups that finish fastest in each room, in both hardcore and normal modes.
How long is each game? how EARLY should we arrive?
Each game is one hour. However, we ask that players arrive 10 minutes early, and groups will often stay for a few minutes after the game to take pictures in our lobby, relish their victories, or lick their wounds. The total time you spend here may be around an hour and a half, on average. If you are running late, call us so we can work with you. Late arrivals (depending on how late) are usually only a problem when there are bookings for the same room immediately after your game time.
Can we take photographs inside the rooms?
Sorry, but to preserve the integrity of our rooms we do not allow photographs or video in any of the game rooms. The exception to this is at the end of the game, where we have a designated spot, unique to each room, where you can take pictures. We do this to prevent possible spoilers from photos that accidentally capture key parts of the game. You are more than welcome to take pictures of your team in our lobby.
How do I book a room?
Click on the BOOK NOW boxes or on the tab at the top of each page and you will be directed to a booking section where you can choose a date, time, and room.
How do I redeem a gift certificate?
Gift certificates can be redeemed during the checkout process. When you are prompted for your form of payment, look for the Gift Certificate box.
Should we book in advance?
We strongly recommend our players book in advance. Our rooms can fill up quickly.
How can we book multiple people at the same time?
When you choose a room, date, and time, you will have the option to choose the number of people you wish to book for. Simply change the number from “1” to your desired number.
How do we pay for rooms?
Our rooms are booked through our online booking page, which can be accessed on any of our web pages by clicking on the BOOK A ROOM button. We accept all major credit cards.
Are there refunds?
All of our rooms are non-refundable. If you contact us 24 hours in advance, we will work with you to change your reservation to a later, open slot.
Can escape rooms be booked for corporate or group events?
Absolutely! If you are scheduling a large group event where you might want to book a few or all of the rooms simultaneously OR within a block of time, simply contact us and let us know what you need. We are also able to open outside of our normal operating hours for large group events.
Is there parking available?
Yes! We have plenty of parking available.
Can we bring food or drink into the game room?
Sorry, but to protect our puzzles we ask that you leave any food or beverages behind before starting your escape.
Are the games physically demanding?
Our games require more brains and teamwork than individual brawn, but some of the puzzles do require minor physical manipulation. If you are concerned about these issues, please contact us and let us know your needs and we will work to find an escape room that suits you.
